Kane Parsons, the director behind the surprise horror hit Backrooms, has revealed his ideal future for the franchise: a limited series that would bring his planned story arc to a conclusion. Parsons, who successfully translated his viral YouTube series into a critically acclaimed and commercially successful film, told Deadline that the overarching narrative has always had a defined path.
"There's been a very set arc to the whole thing from the beginning," Parsons stated, expressing excitement about the prospect of fully realizing his vision. While he remained tight-lipped about current projects, the success of the Backrooms film, which set an opening weekend box office record for A24 and made Parsons the youngest director to achieve a number one movie, suggests a return is likely.
Reports earlier this September indicated that a Backrooms sequel is in development with Parsons attached to direct. This film project could potentially align with Parsons' earlier comments to Variety, where he suggested the story would extend beyond the confines of the first movie. The limited series, however, could represent a more distant future project intended to serve as the definitive ending to the established narrative, allowing the Backrooms hype to continue without immediate pressure to conclude.
