Larian Studios has released a new wave of player statistics to commemorate the third anniversary of Baldur's Gate 3. Among the data are insights into which non-player characters met the most violent ends at the hands of players, alongside other notable player behaviors.
Most Frequent NPC Fatalities
The statistics highlight a grim reality for several key characters within the game. The tiefling leader Zevlor was the most frequently killed NPC, having died over 12.31 million times. Following him is the tiefling wizard Rolan, who met his end 8.62 million times, and Selûne cleric Isobel, who was killed 7.2 million times. The traveling scribe Volo was dispatched 4.62 million times, while the bard Alfira was killed 2.62 million times.
The Dark Urge's Impact
Player choices, particularly those influenced by the Dark Urge origin, significantly impacted NPC survival rates. Alfira, for instance, died in 48% of Dark Urge playthroughs. Interestingly, Larian noted that more non-Dark Urge players managed to kill Alfira than players embracing that specific origin. The Dark Urge players also demonstrated a propensity for violence against other characters, killing Isobel in 62% of their runs, Zevlor in 48%, the gnome Wulbren in 32%, and the kobold trader Popper in 30%.
Player Engagement and Modding
Beyond character deaths, the data also sheds light on player engagement with the game's systems. Players have downloaded mods a staggering 500 million times, a substantial increase from the 265 million downloads reported previously. In more unusual findings, the 'Poo-Scraper' item was used only four times in combat in Act 3. Furthermore, a small number of players engaged in extensive manual saving, with some exceeding over 560 manual saves in a single playthrough, indicating a high degree of cautious or meticulous gameplay.
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, with recent sales making it an opportune time for new players to experience the game.
