A recent livestream featuring Larian Studios' popular RPG Baldur's Gate 3 was terminated prematurely on YouTube and TikTok after broadcasting a sexually explicit scene. The incident occurred during a heavily modded Dark Urge playthrough hosted by senior communications developer Aoife Wilson.
The stream was showcasing a sequence within the game's House of Hope area, where Wilson's character engaged in an intimate encounter with the incubus consort, Harleep. An attempt was made to obscure the on-screen action with a D20 die, but the content was deemed too explicit for the platforms' terms of service.
"True to form, we have just been banned on several platforms that we’re currently streaming to," Wilson stated, as reported by The Gamer. "Where are we even left now? Twitch. Fingers crossed." The broadcast continued on X, formerly Twitter, where content moderation policies are more lenient.
Wilson expressed a sense of pride in the ban, commenting, "Too hot for TikTok and YouTube. I’m taking that as a badge of honor." Baldur's Gate 3 has garnered significant attention for its player freedom, allowing for a wide range of interactions and roleplaying choices, including romances with various characters, some of which have been particularly noteworthy, such as the druid's bear form.
Wilson's Dark Urge playthrough streams are a weekly event, occurring every Wednesday at 10 a.m. EDT. It remains to be seen if future broadcasts will be permitted on YouTube and TikTok.
