Baldur's Gate 3 Mod 'Path to Menzoberranzan' Shows Off Near-Complete Demo Environments

The modding team behind the custom Baldur's Gate 3 campaign, Path to Menzoberranzan, has released a visual teaser for its upcoming demo level, indicating that the environmental assets are nearing completion. This ambitious project, which aims to transport players to Minthara's hometown with new companions and locations from previous Baldur's Gate titles, had previously targeted the first half of 2026 for its demo release. This timeline was adjusted following a scope reassessment last summer.

According to community manager Andrew Simone, the demo level's environments are in the final stages of polish, with only touch-ups and lighting remaining. This focus on environmental completion follows the conclusion of the level design phase in April. Future priorities for the demo include sound design and scripting work.

The developers shared a screenshot depicting the atmosphere of the upcoming area, described by Simone as a "dark, ruined dungeon" where "foul magic is at play." While the image provides a moody glimpse, specific architectural details are difficult to discern without expert knowledge of the Forgotten Realms setting. The teaser was accompanied by a social media post stating, "Happy almost-summer, drow enthusiasts! We come bearing a sneaky peek at some new places you might explore quite soon. Without giving too much away: dark halls, fallen stone & foul magic at play."

Simone expressed excitement about sharing progress, noting that the current state is "a work-in-progress and subject to change." The team anticipates a busy summer ahead as they continue development. While a firm release date for the demo remains unannounced, the progress suggests it may arrive in the latter half of 2026, though faster development could bring it sooner.
