Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Reimagines World of Warcraft's Lordaeron as Undead Uprising

A new custom campaign mod for Baldur's Gate 3, titled Forsaken, has launched its first act, transporting players into a narrative inspired by World of Warcraft. This ambitious project diverges from the Dungeons & Dragons setting of Baldur's Gate 3 to tell the story of undead former slaves fighting to reclaim the kingdom of Lordaeron.

The mod is the latest creation from SquallyDaBeanz, a modder previously known for an expansion that added a new region to the second act of Baldur's Gate 3's main story. Forsaken shifts focus to the Tirisfal Glades region from World of Warcraft, aiming to emulate the design philosophy of Blizzard's long-running MMORPG. The mod deliberately disconnects from the established Baldur's Gate lore.

Players assume the role of one of the Forsaken, an undead individual who has recently gained sentience after being freed from servitude to a Lich King. The objective is to find a place among other liberated undead and fight to retake the kingdom of Lordaeron. The initial act features over 20 quests, encouraging exploration of forgotten ruins, engaging in combat against fierce beasts and zealots, and discovering magical items. The mod is designed for characters between levels 1 and 5.

SquallyDaBeanz has stated that the mod's current map is intended to feel expansive, similar to World of Warcraft's environments, though it may not be as densely packed with secrets as Larian's original content. The first act includes towns, settlements, and dungeons. Players can recruit up to three custom companions: Darnell, a fighter; Isabella, a mage; and Duesten, a cleric. These companions are currently housed in Deathknell Chapel, with SquallyDaBeanz noting that their implementation is temporary and a full overhaul is planned for a future update.

While the current version includes NPCs and traders, it heavily emphasizes combat and follows a more linear structure than the base game. The modder plans to expand the first act with additional quests, class dialogue, skill checks, items, and lore books. Enhancements such as idle animations and cutscenes for certain NPCs are also on the roadmap.

To install Forsaken, players need to download the main file and follow the provided instructions. The mod is then enabled through Baldur's Gate 3's in-game mod manager, requiring players to start a new game to access the World of Warcraft-inspired campaign.
