Larian Studios has continued its tradition of sharing player statistics for Baldur's Gate 3, revealing some surprising and often bizarre data points about how players engage with the popular RPG.
Among the more standard metrics, the studio noted that over 500 million mods have been downloaded, and 13,000 unique mods have been uploaded by the community. The most frequently deceased NPC in player games was the Tiefling leader Zevlor, who met their end 12.3 million times, followed by the wizard apprentice Rolan at 8.6 million deaths.
The data also highlighted peculiar in-game actions. The item "Nut-Buster," described as a rock, was used twice in combat within the Creche area. Furthermore, "Poo-Scraper," a weapon belonging to the quasit Shovel, saw use four times in combat during Act 3.
More unsettling statistics include over 30,000 players reportedly reaching the Netherbrain encounter while inebriated in-game. Only a small fraction, under 1%, of players have managed to accumulate 180,000 gold within a single playthrough. Perhaps one of the most peculiar revelations is that over 9,000 players experienced the game using a 9:16 aspect ratio, effectively playing with their monitors in portrait mode.
However, Larian pointed to one statistic as particularly "disturbing": more non-Dark Urge players have murdered the NPC Alfira than players who chose the Dark Urge origin. Alfira, a bard encountered early in the game, is a mandatory kill for Dark Urge players during a scripted event, though alternatives exist. The data suggests that a greater number of players, by choice and outside of the narrative compulsion, have opted to kill her, leading Larian to label players as "monsters."
