Battle Brothers Receives First Major Update in a Year, Adding New Weapons and Enemies

Developer Overhype has released a significant update for its mercenary tactics management game, Battle Brothers, marking the first substantial patch in approximately a year. The update introduces a trio of new weapons: the Pollaxe, the Executioner's Sword, and the Estoc, alongside a notable expansion of enemy factions.

The Pollaxe, described as a versatile weapon, can be used for staggering opponents or splitting shields, with its name deriving from the Old English word for 'head'. The Executioner's Sword is heavier than other two-handed swords, incurring a significant fatigue penalty but offering potent versatility in combat. The Estoc is designed for piercing armor, dealing less raw damage but excelling at bypassing defensive plating.

To provide a more robust challenge throughout the game's progression, the update also enhances the Bandit enemy faction. Previously, Bandits became less of a threat in the mid to late game. The new Brigand Marauder tier features bandits with improved stats, more perks, and worn but effective armor. These Marauders will appear as leaders of bandit parties and eventually form full groups, posing a greater challenge to experienced mercenary companies.

Additionally, the update refines northern noble house troops by adding Men at Arms to their unit compositions. These units are equipped with superior armor compared to standard footmen and can utilize either a two-handed weapon or a shield loadout. Further details on smaller changes and fixes are available in the official patch notes.
