EA has announced that the Platoons feature for Battlefield 6, originally slated for a December release, has been postponed until 2027. The publisher cited internal quality standards as the reason for the delay, stating that the feature "is not ready for deployment."
Platoons, which function similarly to clans or guilds in other games, were confirmed to be returning to the Battlefield franchise with Battlefield 6 in April. The feature allows players to form communities of up to 100 members, easily party up with fellow Platoon members, and display Platoon tags. It was also intended to offer XP bonuses for playing together and include leadership tools for managing membership. The feature was initially set to go live alongside a server browser and new map updates in early December.
Some players have expressed disappointment and disbelief regarding the delay. "These so called ‘features’ were basic community game mechanics in previous games Crazy how it seems the team has forgotten how Battlefield looked previously," one user commented on X. Another questioned the timing of the announcement, "How did they not know it wasn’t ready just a few weeks ago when the new season launched?" There was an expectation that such a core community feature, highlighted as part of the season's theme, would be ready on time.
EA stated that more details regarding the revised 2027 roadmap for Platoons will be shared after the holidays. The company reiterated its commitment to delivering high-quality experiences to its players. The B-81 Cavalry feature was also mentioned as being delayed for similar quality reasons.
