Battlefield 6's latest trailer for Season 5 includes a sequence that seems to reference the Dead Space franchise. While the trailer primarily showcases the new Las Vegas map with aerial combat and destructible environments, it cuts to a scene featuring two engineers looking up at a structure resembling The Marker, a key artifact from Dead Space.
This tease follows previous rumors of Dead Space-themed skins potentially arriving in Battlefield 6 during an October Halloween update. While developers at Dice previously stated the game would avoid "goofy, immersion-breaking skins," this potential crossover suggests a shift in that stance. This is not the first time Battlefield 6 has incorporated elements from other media, having previously featured a crossover event with Top Gun.
The Dead Space franchise has seen limited output in recent years. Series writer Chuck Beaver noted earlier this year that sales figures for a potential Dead Space 4 would likely need to exceed 10 million copies to justify the high production costs, a benchmark rarely met by horror titles. The Dead Space remake, released in 2023, received critical acclaim with an IGN review awarding it a 9/10, but it seems sales were not sufficient to greenlight a direct sequel.
Glen Schofield, a co-creator of Dead Space and developer of The Callisto Protocol, has expressed a desire to revive the franchise. He previously approached EA with a proposal for Dead Space 4, offering to leverage existing assets to reduce development costs, but was reportedly met with disinterest from the publisher. Schofield indicated he was making calls regarding the franchise's future following EA's acquisition by new ownership.
Battlefield 6's fifth season, set to launch on October 13, will introduce three new maps, six new weapons, and two new vehicles in addition to the Vegas Strip and Area 51 maps already revealed.
