Battlefield Developer Addresses Cosmetic Glitches, Remains Silent on AI Use

Battlefield Studios has released a statement addressing player concerns over unusual and erroneous cosmetic items in Battlefield 6, acknowledging missteps but remaining silent on the possibility of generative AI being used in their creation. The developer stated it is aware of the community's "conversation, memes, and candid feedback" regarding new skins and cosmetic items.

Players had specifically highlighted issues such as a "SECUTY" misspelling on a McNeil skin, which the studio plans to correct in the upcoming Season 5, Phase 2 update in November. "However, we recognize that letting a known visual error go live without quick acknowledgement creates confusion and erodes trust," the statement read. "We are reviewing how we communicate known visual bugs so you aren’t left wondering whether something was intentional or overlooked."

Battlefield Studios also commented on the Midnight Mirage skin, which features a character with five pistols. The developer explained this was an intentional design choice intended to reflect "over-the-top action movie tropes," where characters often possess an abundance of weaponry. The studio conceded that this design might have appeared unintentional when presented alongside other visual anomalies. "As we continue to try out new ideas to see what interests the community, you help us continue to evolve our cosmetics in Battlefield," the studio added.

The conversation surrounding AI in game development resurfaced with Battlefield 6's launch in 2025, as some players suspected AI-generated assets. While Battlefield Studios has not confirmed or denied AI usage for in-game assets, the studio's leadership is reportedly a proponent of AI in game development. This contrasts with other studios, such as Activision, which has openly admitted to using AI for asset creation in titles like the upcoming Modern Warfare 4.

Brandon Stirrup, part of Microsoft's Xbox business strategy team, recently noted that the integration of AI into development workflows is standard practice across many industries, including gaming. He suggested that developers may be hesitant to admit AI use due to negative player sentiment, observing that "Everyone else accepts reality."

In other news related to Battlefield 6, the game was recently added to Xbox Game Pass, and its price has been reduced across all platforms to coincide with the recent launch of Season 5.
