Foolish Mortals Games, co-creators of Kaiju Wars, has released Battleplan, a new World War II real-time strategy game featuring a distinct order-issuing system. In Battleplan, players issue commands by drawing on a stylized paper map, which is then interpreted by thousands of virtual troops, tanks, and aircraft.
The game allows for detailed strategic planning beyond simple "attack" commands. Players can define breakthrough attacks, planned withdrawals, preparatory bombing runs, reconnaissance missions, and counterattacks. Success hinges on the precision of these drawn orders and the effective organization of forces before drawing new frontlines.
Battleplan features a realistic simulation of military structure, with divisions composed of headquarters, regiments, battalions, and companies. Players can customize the chain of command and order of battle, potentially combining divisions into corps or splitting units into companies. The game also includes requisitioning and upgrading units, hiring officers, and developing veteran units over the course of a campaign.
The launch version offers a single-player campaign with 11 historical missions spanning from the D-Day landings to Operation Varsity, set on the Western Front. The developers have stated plans to expand the game post-launch with new content, system updates, and additional theaters of war.
Battleplan is available now on Steam.
