Fantasy Flight Games' Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game, a sought-after title for many board game enthusiasts, is set to make a comeback. Ghost Galaxy announced an agreement with Universal and Fantasy Flight Games to release a new edition of the game, with crowdfunding planned for early next year.
First released in 2008, the original game drew inspiration from the Sci-Fi Channel reboot of Battlestar Galactica. It was celebrated for its ability to capture the show's inherent tension, casting players as humans attempting to reach home while secretly being infiltrated by Cylon agents. The game received three expansions but went out of print nearly a decade ago, leading to secondary market prices exceeding $1,000 for a complete set. In 2021, Fantasy Flight Games released Unfathomable, a similar game that swapped the Battlestar Galactica theme for a boat setting and Lovecraftian horrors.
Details regarding the new edition are currently scarce, though it is described as featuring an "updated design." Christian T. Peterson, CEO of Ghost Galaxy and the original founder and CEO of Fantasy Flight Games and creator of Twilight Imperium, will oversee the project. This move follows Fantasy Flight Games' recent "Vault Series" initiative, which began with a remastered version of Arkham Horror. It remains to be seen if the new Battlestar Galactica edition will be part of this series, given its publication by a different entity.
The crowdfunding campaign page for the upcoming Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game edition is expected to launch soon.
