Fox's upcoming reboot of the iconic lifeguard drama Baywatch has unveiled its first full trailer, highlighting a return to the original series' signature blend of action, drama, and copious slow-motion. The series is set to premiere in January 2027.
The trailer emphasizes that the reboot aims to capture the spirit of the 1989 original, featuring dramatic rescue scenarios such as a plane crash into the ocean. The narrative centers on Hobie Buchannon, portrayed by Stephen Amell, who takes on the role of captain of the Baywatch team. Amell's character is the son of David Hasselhoff's original character and leads his fellow lifeguards in ensuring beach safety while also navigating personal drama, including the appearance of his estranged daughter, Charlie Vale, played by Jessica Belkin.
In addition to Amell and Belkin, the cast includes Hassie Harrison, Shay Mitchell, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck, Livvy Dunne, and Brooks Nader. David Chokachi, a veteran of the original Baywatch, is also slated to appear in a recurring capacity. The series is being produced by Fox and Fremantle, with Matt Nix serving as showrunner and executive producer.
The trailer also offers glimpses of other dramatic elements, including a beach on fire and an explosion, all underscored by the series' characteristic slow-motion sequences. Musician Megan Thee Stallion makes a brief appearance, following earlier reports of her involvement in the show.
The original Baywatch, which first aired in 1989, achieved significant global popularity, with Guinness World Records recognizing it as the most-watched television series of all time. It ran for eleven seasons and led to a spin-off, Baywatch Hawaii. A previous film adaptation in 2017, starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, took a more comedic approach and received mixed to negative reviews.
