Game Freak is preparing to launch its action-RPG Beast of Reincarnation on August 4 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This title diverges significantly from the developer's well-known work on the Pokémon series, incorporating elements inspired by FromSoftware's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, alongside unique companion mechanics. While Sekiro is renowned for its demanding difficulty, Beast of Reincarnation aims for a more accessible experience. The game features more forgiving parry and counter windows, and players can utilize a time-slowing mechanic to issue commands to their companion, Koo, who can assist in battle.
Despite its more forgiving design, Beast of Reincarnation will still present challenges. Senior video producer Jake Dekker noted that certain open-ended zones can house particularly difficult boss encounters, emphasizing that players should be strategic when facing formidable foes. The game introduces protagonist Emma, who wields potent plant-based abilities. These powers allow her to manipulate the environment, gain aerial advantages, and execute powerful attacks. Success in combat will rely on finding a synergy between Emma's individual skills and Koo's support abilities. Both Emma and Koo have distinct upgradeable skill trees, suggesting a depth of customization for players.
Game Freak, known for titles such as Pocket Card Jockey and Tembo the Badass Elephant, is developing Beast of Reincarnation with contributions from several external teams. This collaboration suggests a multifaceted approach to the game's design and development, aiming to blend familiar action-RPG elements with novel mechanics. The early August release date positions Beast of Reincarnation to kick off a busy month for new game launches.
