Best Buy is bringing back midnight launches, with the upcoming release of a special edition Nintendo Switch 2 console and associated hardware for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time serving as the kickoff event. This move offers a new avenue for fans who have struggled to acquire the highly sought-after, Triforce-themed hardware and accessories through online pre-orders, which have consistently sold out within moments.
Customers who preordered the Zelda Switch 2 system or its accompanying Pro Controller can opt for in-store pickup at participating Best Buy locations during the midnight launch. For those who missed out on preorders, the retailer will have a limited quantity of consoles and controllers available for walk-in purchase at midnight. This in-person availability aims to circumvent the rapid sell-outs often caused by bots and high demand online.
While Best Buy has not recently hosted midnight launch events, the company notes that customers are familiar with lining up for popular releases, citing the demand for Pokémon cards as an example. Interested attendees are advised to verify their local Best Buy's participation and assess potential line lengths several hours before the midnight event to avoid disappointment.
Notably, the electric ocarina instrument accessory, which is sold out on Nintendo's website, will not be available for purchase at Best Buy during the launch. Fans seeking this particular item are encouraged to monitor the official Nintendo Store app for restock updates.
