Bethesda has officially re-confirmed that Fallout 5 is in development, a move that signals a significant long-term commitment to the post-apocalyptic role-playing series. The studio also announced plans to release remasters for both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

These new projects will exist alongside a separate Fallout title being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the original creators of New Vegas. Bethesda stated that Fallout is a major priority and that Fallout 5 represents the "long-range destination" for the franchise. Currently, Fallout 5 is in its pre-production phase. However, Bethesda's immediate focus remains on The Elder Scrolls 6.

"We know it’s been a very long wait for the sequel," a Bethesda representative said regarding The Elder Scrolls 6. "The next chapter is on the way. We’re where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day."

Regarding the remasters, Bethesda acknowledged player desire to revisit past entries in the series. "We also know many players want to revisit previous Fallout experiences," the developer noted, confirming that work has begun on updated versions of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Specific release dates for these remasters were not provided.

In addition to these major announcements, Bethesda shared sales and player milestones for existing Fallout titles. Fallout 4 has now sold over 35 million copies worldwide, while the mobile game Fallout Shelter has surpassed 250 million players. The Fallout Shelter franchise is also expanding with a new reality television series.

Furthermore, Fallout 76 is slated to receive a substantial expansion in 2027 titled Raven Rock, which will serve as a prequel story to Fallout 3. Bethesda also teased plans for a special celebration in 2027 to mark the franchise's 30th anniversary, including a live event in Washington, D.C.
