Bethesda Game Studios has outlined its development roadmap, confirming that The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 are in active production. The studio also announced multiple other Fallout-related projects, including remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, and a new Fallout title being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the creators of Fallout: New Vegas.
Development on The Elder Scrolls 6, officially announced in 2018, is the primary focus for Bethesda Game Studios, with the majority of its team dedicated to the long-awaited sequel. Fallout 5 is also confirmed to be in the works and will utilize the studio's in-house Creation Engine 3, the same technology powering Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6. Fallout 5 is currently in the preproduction phase.
In addition to these major titles, Bethesda revealed that multiple Fallout projects are underway, separate from Obsidian's contribution. Fallout 76 will continue to receive support with a major expansion planned for next year titled "Raven Rock," a prequel to Fallout 3. Fallout 4, which recently surpassed 35 million copies sold, continues to attract new players, and the studio is working on remasters for both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
Starfield will also see continued development, with new stories, gameplay improvements, and additional updates planned for the coming year, including new "Starborn" content. Bethesda highlighted the success of its Creations platform, which allows players to customize their experiences, with creators having already earned over $10 million in royalties.
The studio is also collaborating with Obsidian Entertainment on a new Fallout project, further expanding the franchise's reach. The announcement comes as part of a broader strategic shift for Bethesda and Xbox, focusing on core franchises and aligning talent and technology across the organization to ensure a more stable foundation and sustainable growth.
