Beyond Good & Evil 2 Adds Assassin's Creed Writer as Development Continues

Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains in development, with Ubisoft recently adding another writer to its team. The news comes 18 years after the game's initial announcement and a decade after its re-reveal at E3 2016.

Rik Godwin, lead writer and associate narrative director at Ubisoft Bordeaux, confirmed via social media that he joined the project several months ago in a support and consultant capacity. Ubisoft Bordeaux, established in 2017, has primarily served as a support studio but recently led development on Assassin's Creed Mirage and Claws of Awaji, the expansion for Assassin's Creed Shadows. The geographical proximity of Ubisoft Bordeaux to Ubisoft Montpellier, which is leading Beyond Good & Evil 2, makes this collaboration logical.

This addition marks another development for the highly anticipated sequel, which has seen a slow but steady progression in recent years. Under the guidance of creative director Fawzi Mesmar, the project has shown signs of renewed direction. Characters from the sequel have made appearances in the new Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition, further integrating the project with its predecessor.

Furthermore, Beyond Good & Evil 2 survived Ubisoft's significant project and studio restructuring earlier this year, a reshuffling that saw other titles, such as the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, cancelled. At the time, Mesmar expressed his commitment to delivering a remarkable game, acknowledging the difficult climate within Ubisoft and the broader industry.

Despite the prolonged development cycle and the uncertainty surrounding its eventual release and final form, the continued support and additions to the team suggest that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still on track to launch at some point in the future. The game's ultimate appearance and whether its title will remain unchanged are yet to be seen, but the recent developments offer a glimmer of hope for its eventual release.
