Despite nearly two decades in development, Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil 2 is reportedly still in progress. Rik Godwin, narrative director and associate narrative director at Ubisoft Bordeaux, stated on social media that he has been working on the game in a support capacity for several months. He confirmed that he is permitted to share this information.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 was first announced in 2008 and has since become emblematic of games mired in development hell. The project has seen sporadic updates over the years, including a cinematic trailer shown at E3 2018 and a partnership with Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Hit Record creative platform. In 2022, the game officially surpassed Duke Nukem Forever as the longest-developed game in history.
Ubisoft has maintained that the game remains in development, with assurances given in January 2023 and again in January of this year. An animator's portfolio also showcased gameplay footage in September 2023. Godwin's recent statement offers the latest confirmation of the project's continued, albeit mysterious, existence.
