Big Walk, the new cooperative title from developer House House, is already facing a notable technical issue related to its core communication mechanic. The developer has acknowledged that some players are encountering problems where their friends' voices are too quiet within the game, even when they are in close proximity.
In a blog update, House House stated, "We understand that some people are having a problem where their friends' voices are too quiet in the game. Sorry about this." The studio elaborated that while Big Walk is designed so that player voices naturally become quieter with distance, some setups are causing voices to be significantly quieter than intended, irrespective of how close players are to each other. A fix for this audio problem is reportedly in development and expected to be released as soon as possible.
The proximity-based audio system is a key feature of Big Walk, directly tying communication clarity to player positioning. This design choice aims to simulate real-life interactions, where closeness facilitates clearer conversation. However, the current bug undermines this intended functionality for some users.
Despite this issue, Big Walk has received strong critical reception since its launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. The game holds a Metascore of 94 on Metacritic, based on 14 reviews, making it the highest-rated game of 2026 to date according to the aggregate site. GameSpot's own review described the game as "singularly rewarding, supremely mysterious, and totally unforgettable," highlighting its focused cooperative experience. Players with a PlayStation Plus subscription can also access Big Walk as one of August's free games.
Big Walk offers numerous puzzles that rely on effective communication and coordination. To assist players in overcoming these challenges, the game provides alternative communication tools, including various gadgets and visual markers, which can be used to strategize and progress through puzzles even when voice communication is suboptimal.
