Bill Skarsgård has been cast in the lead role for Physint, the upcoming action-espionage game from Kojima Productions. The title is being developed as a spiritual successor to the Metal Gear Solid series, which Hideo Kojima helmed for many years before founding his own studio.
Skarsgård, widely recognized for his portrayal of Pennywise in the recent It film adaptations, also recently appeared as Count Orlok in Nosferatu and the Marquis Vincent de Gramont in John Wick 4. Kojima expressed his enthusiasm for the casting in a press release, stating, "I'm delighted to confirm the lead role for PHYSINT will be Bill Skarsgård. We are both long-time fans of each other’s work, and we've decided to embark on this new adventure together." He added that early costume fittings and scans with Skarsgård and co-star Charlee Fraser had provided him with "tremendous confidence in the direction of the project."
Fraser, known for her roles in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Anyone But You, was previously confirmed for Physint alongside actors Ma Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee (Train to Busan, Eternals), and Minami Hamabe (Godzilla Minus One).
Physint's publishing landscape has seen a significant shift. Originally slated for release under PlayStation, the project was dropped by the publisher. Reports from Bloomberg indicate that Kojima Productions missed key deadlines and was trending over budget, with sales of the Death Stranding series not meeting PlayStation's revenue expectations. In a turn of events, Xbox was revealed as the new publisher for Physint, a fact highlighted during Xbox's Tokyo Game Show presentation where Kojima appeared.
This new partnership with Xbox follows an existing collaboration between Kojima Productions and the platform holder for the upcoming title OD – Knock, which stars Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer. Footage from recent performance capture sessions for OD – Knock was also showcased alongside the Physint announcement.
