Black Myth: Wukong has reportedly sold over 30 million copies, a significant milestone for the action RPG developed by Game Science. This figure, if accurate, would place the game's sales ahead of contemporaries like CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 and FromSoftware's Elden Ring within a similar timeframe post-launch.
When approached for confirmation on the 30 million sales figure, Game Science stated that the game had "achieved results beyond our expectations." While the developer did not provide specific new sales numbers beyond the initial announcement of over 10 million copies sold within four days of its 2024 launch, it expressed gratitude for the global player support. "What we can say is that Black Myth: Wukong has achieved results beyond our expectations in both China and international markets, and we remain incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm and support from players around the world," a statement from Game Science read.
Upon its release, Black Myth: Wukong garnered significant attention, setting a new record for the highest concurrent peak player count for a single-player game on Steam. It also topped charts as the most-viewed game on Chinese live-streaming platforms on its debut day. The game was later nominated for Game of the Year at the 2024 Game Awards.
Game Science is currently developing a follow-up titled Black Myth: Zhong Kui, centered on the myth of the ghost-catching god. This new title, while not a direct sequel, will also be a single-player action RPG rooted in Chinese folklore and is slated for release on PC and mainstream console platforms. A release date for Black Myth: Zhong Kui has not yet been announced.
