Game Science, the developer behind Black Myth: Wukong, has unveiled new gameplay for its upcoming title, Black Myth: Zhong Kui. This new trailer showcases challenging combat, magical abilities, and an impressive boss encounter, all set against a backdrop of ancient Chinese fantasy.

The gameplay footage features the protagonist, likely the titular Zhong Kui from classic folklore, battling hostile island dwellers with a combination of swordplay and potent magical spells. These spells can imbue his blade with elemental effects like fire and lightning, and he utilizes a swift backstep to evade incoming attacks. The trailer highlights a particularly striking boss fight against a massive, grotesque figure with clam-like wings, encountered at the edge of a small lake.

During the intense duel, the protagonist summons a shadowy companion for assistance. In a climactic move, he merges with this ally to deliver a devastating final blow to the imposing enemy. Following this boss battle, the trailer transitions into a sizzle reel displaying a variety of creatures, diverse environments, and a musical interlude featuring a skeletal band. The footage also suggests that players may be able to ride a tiger within the game.

While Game Science has not yet announced a release date for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the game is confirmed to be heading to PC and consoles. The title was initially revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live last year. Black Myth: Zhong Kui joins a growing number of games inspired by Chinese fantasy, including titles such as Phantom Blade Zero and upcoming RPGs like On the Edge and Longevity: Yin and Yang.
