Marvel Studios has officially announced that a third Black Panther film is in development, with director Ryan Coogler returning to helm the project. Titled Black Panther 3, the movie is slated for a theatrical release on December 15, 2028. The film will introduce T'Challa's son, who will share the Black Panther mantle alongside Shuri, portrayed by Letitia Wright.

David Jonsson, known for his role in The Long Walk, has been cast as T'Challa's son. Coogler intends to shoot Black Panther 3 on celluloid film rather than digitally, opting for a larger format. Specific plot details remain scarce, but the new Black Panther is expected to play a significant role.

This announcement follows the success of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which grossed $859 million worldwide. That film served as a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, who originated the role of T'Challa. In Wakanda Forever, Letitia Wright's character, Shuri, stepped into the role of the Black Panther.

While actor Denzel Washington had previously hinted at a role in Black Panther 3, his participation has not been confirmed. Coogler had previously expressed interest in directing a third installment but was occupied with other projects, including an X-Files reboot and the film Sinners. The schedules have now aligned for Coogler and Marvel Studios to move forward with production.

Fans can see Shuri's Black Panther and other related characters next in Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release on December 18, shortly before Black Panther 3 arrives after Avengers: Secret Wars and Ghost Rider.
