A team of blacksmiths has successfully recreated the massive Aberrant melee weapon from the upcoming game Control Resonant, only to discover that the replica is too heavy to practically wield.
In an episode of the YouTube series Man at Arms, sponsored by developer Remedy Entertainment, the smiths took on the challenge of building the iconic hammer. To replicate the Aberrant's distinctive appearance, they utilized hollow steel panels and advanced welding techniques. The process highlighted the impracticality of such a colossal tool; a solid metal hammer of that size would be exceedingly difficult to manage, let alone swing.
Even with design considerations to manage its overall weight, the finished replica proved too substantial. The blacksmiths found it impossible to pick up or swing for even a few test attempts, rendering the impressive creation more of a display piece than a functional weapon. The Aberrant is described as the primary melee tool players will use in Control Resonant, capable of taking on various forms, with the giant hammer being its most visually striking iteration.
Control Resonant is set to launch on September 24, with a digital deluxe edition for PlayStation 5 available on September 22. Early critical reception appears strong, with the PlayStation 5 version currently holding a Metascore of 84 on Metacritic, compiled from 48 reviews. This score positions it among the highest-rated games of the year according to aggregated critical consensus. The game has been praised for its successful blend of Remedy's signature surreal narrative style with engaging gameplay mechanics. GameSpot's review noted that "Alongside the stellar art direction and a surprisingly touching story, Control Resonant’s gameplay loop feels more mainstream than anything this team has made since Max Payne."
