Lucky Duck Games has unveiled Blade Runner 2099, a new narrative-driven board game set in the iconic science fiction universe. The game, revealed at the recent Spiel Essen convention in Germany, is slated to launch on Kickstarter next year. This tabletop adventure will utilize a companion digital app for narration and other features.
Players will engage in a detective-based cooperative experience where humans are the persecuted group. This premise marks a departure from the typical focus on replicants in the franchise. Details about the game remain sparse, but Lucky Duck Games has confirmed that the story will be distinct from the upcoming Amazon Prime series also titled Blade Runner 2099. While the board game and the series share the same name, there has been no official word on whether characters might cross over between the two projects.
The Amazon Prime series is scheduled for a November release and has been described as an undercover police story. Showrunner Silka Luisa has discussed the series, which will explore a world where replicants are in control. Fans eager to keep track of the board game's development can visit its live Kickstarter page to sign up for launch notifications.
