Blizzard has announced release dates for Diablo 5 and a new StarCraft open-world shooter, with the games slated for spring 2029 and 2030 respectively. This marks an uncharacteristic departure from the studio's historical approach of keeping release windows obscured until closer to launch.

Blizzard president Johanna Faries stated in an interview with Bloomberg that the early reveals are intended "to convey confidence in some of our biggest bets coming forward." She added, "We're a Blizzard that's going to ship, and ship big, and ship on time, and all hands on deck to set those projects up for success." This new strategy aims to signal a period of stability and ambitious output for the company.

The announcement of Diablo 5 with a 2029 release date, just six years after Diablo 4, has raised questions about the future of Diablo 4 expansions. Meanwhile, the StarCraft open-world shooter, revealed with a 2030 launch, represents a significant genre shift for the real-time strategy franchise. While a StarCraft shooter, StarCraft Ghost, was previously attempted, this new title is being developed by a team that includes former Far Cry lead Dan Hay. A CGI trailer depicted mech-pilot recruits facing high casualty rates, suggesting a more serious tone for the game. Faries described the new StarCraft as a "broadening" of the series, aiming to appeal to a "modern, next generation of players without departing from our RTS roots."

This strategic shift in communication also occurs amid broader industry changes, including significant layoffs at Microsoft's Xbox division. Faries acknowledged the current uncertainties, stating her primary focus is on creating "as healthy a Blizzard as possible" and preserving the company's "unique special sauce." She suggested that strong performance for Blizzard would be a "mutual win" for both the studio and Microsoft.

Alongside these major titles, Blizzard also announced World of Warcraft: Forever for November, a Diablo Netflix animated series, a new Warcraft 3 campaign, a new Overwatch hero, a new Diablo 4 class, and outlined upcoming updates for World of Warcraft. The studio revealed these titles during BlizzCon 2026.
