Blizzard has terminated a senior quality assurance developer following an investigation into a World of Warcraft cheating incident. The studio confirmed that the employee assisted a group of players in completing a Mythic dungeon by using an unauthorized insta-kill spell.

According to Blizzard's statement, the incident was confirmed after a five-person team completed a Mythic dungeon within a specific time limit with the aid of the developer's illicit spell. "We can confirm that this was the action of a single Blizzard employee, in violation of our Code of Conduct," the statement read. "This employee is no longer with the company effective immediately. We are also taking action against the player accounts that were complicit in this violation."

Blizzard explained that all uses of internal spells, including those employed for testing and live game fixes, are logged and shared with the Platform Security team. Company policy strictly prohibits their use for any purpose other than development work.

The studio's swift and transparent handling of the situation has been met with positive player response on social media. Some players have expressed support for the druid tank involved in the raid, who initially published the combat logs that brought the incident to light. Members of the group indicated that the druid was a random player invited for the Mythic key and was unaware of the developer's intervention.

However, concerns have been raised regarding Blizzard's emphasis on the incident being the "action of a single employee" and "isolated to one individual." Some players interpret this language as a potential indicator that the developer may have exploited these tools multiple times for various groups, even if they were the sole perpetrator. While no definitive proof of such repeated actions has emerged, Blizzard likely addressed any lingering consequences. The incident nonetheless prompts questions about the frequency of unnoticed illicit developer actions, given that this particular case surfaced only after the druid tank shared combat logs.
