Blizzard has issued an emergency patch for Diablo 4's Season of Death Awakening, rolling back controversial changes to Mythic Uniques that had drawn widespread criticism from players. The update aims to address frustrations by significantly buffing drop rates and removing the single-item limit for crafted Mythics.
The Season of Death Awakening introduced a new system for Mythic Uniques, expanding the category to include upgraded normal Uniques rather than a select few powerful items. However, players found the drop rates to be prohibitively low, making it exceedingly difficult to acquire desirable items for their character builds. Compounding the issue, the seasonal currency crafting system, intended to mitigate low drop rates, was confusing and restrictive, limiting players to only one crafted Mythic Unique at a time.
This led to considerable player dissatisfaction over the past few weeks. While Blizzard had previously increased Mythic drop rates, it was not enough to alleviate the grind. The developer has now responded to player demands by releasing patch 3.1.1a, which substantially buffs Mythic drop rates and removes the crafted Mythic limit. Reports from players indicate that Mythic Uniques are now dropping much more frequently from the new seasonal boss, and the ability to equip multiple crafted versions has been met with celebration.
Live service design director Dan Tanguay acknowledged the issues in a forum post, stating, "Seasons are where we experiment with new ideas and push Diablo 4 in new directions. Not every idea lands exactly as intended, but we'll continue listening to your feedback, addressing what's not working, and applying those lessons to future seasonal updates." Blizzard has also indicated that further adjustments to drop rates from other sources are planned for a future patch, and the developer is considering reintroducing a crafted limit specifically for items made in the Horadric Cube in subsequent seasons.
