BOOM! Studios has acquired the publishing rights for the cult animated series Invader Zim, with plans to release classic stories, previously hard-to-find collections, and entirely new original content starting later this year. This acquisition marks a significant move to revive the beloved franchise for its dedicated fanbase.

While specific details about creative teams, release formats, and special editions are forthcoming, fans can anticipate the return of iconic characters such as Zim, GIR, Dib, and Gaz. The new content aims to expand upon the established universe with "entirely new invasions, conspiracies, and catastrophically ridiculous adventures."

Bryce Carlson, VP of Business Development & Special Projects at Random House Worlds, commented on the enduring passion of Invader Zim's fanbase. "Few properties have maintained the passionate, enduring fanbase that Invader Zim has," Carlson stated. "We have exciting plans to bring beloved out of print material back onto shelves, and BOOM! is going to usher in a new era of DOOM! with brand-new stories that expand the strange and chaotic world fans know and love. The new invasion has begun. You’ve been warned..."

Created by Jhonen Vasquez, Invader Zim originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2001 to 2002. Despite its short initial run and cancellation during its second season, with six episodes eventually released on DVD and later on Nicktoons Network, the series achieved cult classic status. Its legacy has continued through a sequel comic run, the Netflix film Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus, and multiple InvaderCON fan conventions.

BOOM! Studios is known for its work on various popular properties, including Keanu Reeves' BRZRKR, Something Is Killing the Children, Lumberjanes, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Dune, and The Expanse.
