Writer David Jenkins announced that his planned television series based on DC Comics' Booster Gold will not be moving forward. Jenkins, known for his work on "Our Flag Means Death," shared the news on Threads, stating that his version of the project is concluded.

This development follows speculation about the series' uncertain future. Jenkins drew a parallel to actor Mahershala Ali's recent confirmation that he is no longer involved with Marvel's "Blade" film, suggesting a similar sentiment regarding his own project.

It remains unclear whether the "Booster Gold" series is entirely canceled or if only Jenkins' involvement has ended. DC Studios reportedly intends to continue development on a "Booster Gold" project with a new creative team, though no casting or a release date has been announced. The status of a lead actor has also yet to be determined.

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, had previously revealed plans for a live-action "Booster Gold" story during a DCU announcement in 2023. He described the character as a "loser from the future who uses future technology to come back to the present day and become a superhero, so that people will love him," calling it "the superhero story of imposter syndrome."

Development updates in the past indicated the series was progressing, with Jenkins signing on to handle the pilot script in July of the previous year. Gunn had also provided updates, stating in April that the series was still "in development."

The departure of Jenkins marks a significant setback for the "Booster Gold" project, and its eventual realization with a new team remains uncertain. DC Studios' upcoming slate includes "Lanterns" and "Clayface."
