Booster Gold, a live-action TV series adaptation in development at DC Studios, will not be moving forward, according to writer David Jenkins.
Jenkins, known for his work on "Our Flag Means Death," shared the news on Threads, stating, "My Booster Gold won't be moving forward." He drew a parallel to actor Mahershala Ali's recent confirmation that his Marvel Cinematic Universe "Blade" movie is no longer proceeding. Jenkins indicated that his statement was a direct application of the sentiment expressed by Ali in his own announcement.
Details remain scarce regarding whether the "Booster Gold" project is entirely defunct or if only Jenkins' specific iteration has been halted. This development represents a significant setback for the burgeoning DC Universe.
Ali, in his comments shared by Jenkins, had stated, "For whatever reason, that project is not for me. If they wanted to do it, we would've done it. So I have to move on, and I have moved on." He further elaborated, "Again, you had me under contract, they have billions of dollars, if they wanted to do the movie, we would've done the movie. I feel ready to move on from the Blade questions. Those questions are for them. They didn't want to do it, so they should answer that question."
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn had initially revealed plans for a live-action "Booster Gold" series in 2023 during a comprehensive DCU presentation. At the time, Gunn described the character as "one of comics' really popular cult heroes. He is a fascinating guy. He's a loser from the future who uses future technology to come back to the present day and become a superhero, so that people will love him. It is basically the superhero story of imposter syndrome on an HBO Max series."
