Author Brandon Sanderson has announced the completion of the first draft for the Mistborn screenplay, a project he began in February. In a recent update on his YouTube channel, Sanderson reiterated that this is just the initial step in a lengthy development process, with significant revisions expected.
Sanderson indicated that he will be gathering extensive feedback on the screenplay from editors and Apple TV. "There are many drafts to come," he stated, suggesting that progress on subsequent drafts may take considerable time. He has consistently emphasized that "there's still a lot of work to do" on the adaptation.
While the Mistborn movie's release remains distant, Sanderson is now redirecting his attention to the novel Ghostbloods. This book is slated to be the first in Mistborn Era 3 and is set later in the Cosmere timeline. Its release is anticipated in 2028.
In the interim, Sanderson is preparing to launch a new series in his Cytoverse universe on September 1. Titled Rift Wake, this series will share a timeline with his popular Skyward novels. Sanderson had previously revealed in May that his Skyward series is also slated for a television adaptation, to be produced by the same studio behind the live-action One Piece show. Although no streaming service has yet been attached to the Skyward project, the upcoming launch of Rift Wake signals Sanderson's ambition to expand his young adult series into larger media franchises, akin to his Cosmere universe.
