Brandon Sanderson Open to Mistborn Video Game Adaptation

Author Brandon Sanderson has expressed a strong interest in adapting his Mistborn book series into a video game, contingent on finding a suitable studio partner. Sanderson, who identifies as a "lifelong gamer," has frequently considered the prospect of bringing his work to the interactive medium.

"The key will be the right partner," Sanderson stated in an exclusive interview with IGN. He elaborated that video games, even independent titles, represent significant financial investments. Mistborn, he believes, would be the natural first choice for adaptation due to its intricate magic system and world-building, which lend themselves well to a game format.

While a Mistborn video game is not imminent, the possibility remains open for the future. This potential project follows other multimedia adaptations of the series, including a film adaptation currently in development, for which Sanderson has completed a screenplay. The Mistborn universe has also expanded into tabletop gaming with the recently released Cosmere RPG, which will receive a Mistborn expansion in November. This expansion is being developed by Brotherwise Games in close collaboration with Sanderson.

Sanderson's Cosmere is a sprawling, interconnected series of fantasy novels set across a galaxy. The Cosmere RPG's initial offerings focused on the world of Roshar and the Stormlight Archive books, developed by Brotherwise Games. The potential for a Mistborn video game has drawn comparisons to highly acclaimed titles like Baldur's Gate 3, suggesting a rich foundation for an engaging RPG experience.

For those unfamiliar with Sanderson's work, the Cosmere encompasses a range of epic fantasy novels. A comprehensive reading guide is available for those seeking to explore the interconnected lore and understand the universe from which a potential Mistborn game might emerge.
