Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere RPG Starter Set, first released last year, has now achieved a significant retail presence by becoming available at Target stores. This marks a notable expansion for the tabletop game beyond traditional book sales channels.

Customers can purchase the Stormlight Starter set at Target for $24.99. "It's hard to get our things into these non-traditionally book sales markets, so we're really excited that Target was willing to give us a try," stated Brandon Sanderson in a recent YouTube update. He expressed hope that this move will encourage Target to carry additional Sanderson merchandise in the future.

While Target is a common retailer for board games, the presence of a traditional tabletop RPG on its shelves is less frequent. The inclusion of the Cosmere RPG is seen as a positive development for other book-to-tabletop adaptations seeking broader market access, following the success of titles like the Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG earlier this year, indicating a growing interest in this genre.

IGN previously reviewed the Cosmere RPG core rulebook and starter set, awarding it an 8 out of 10. The review highlighted the RPG's flexible character development and narrative mechanics as strengths for the new TTRPG system.

The starter set features the Bridge Nine adventure, designed to introduce players to the game's mechanics without including spoilers for Sanderson's Cosmere book series. Sanderson has collaborated with Brotherwise Games on multiple tabletop adaptations and has future projects planned, including Stormlight: War for Roshar, slated for a Kickstarter launch in fall 2026.

In other media, Sanderson has completed the first draft of a Mistborn screenplay, with the first Cosmere movie adaptation intended for Apple TV, though a release date has not yet been announced.
