Brandon Sanderson's War for Roshar Board Game Kickstarter Surpasses $1 Million on Day One

Brandon Sanderson and Brotherwise Games have launched the Kickstarter campaign for War of Roshar, a new strategy board game set within Sanderson's Cosmere universe. The campaign has already garnered over $1 million in pledges on its first day, with 23 days remaining.

War for Roshar is a tabletop war game that aims to blend strategic depth with accessible gameplay, drawing heavily from the lore of Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series. The project features artwork from more than 30 different artists.

Several pledge tiers are available for backers. The "Fifth Ideal" tier, priced at $295, includes the base game, the Champions Expansion, 3D components, custom card sleeves, and wooden tokens. This tier also provides miniatures for the Cosmere RPG, including characters from Mistborn Era 1 and Era 2, intended to complement an upcoming RPG expansion.

For those less interested in the RPG add-ons, four other tiers offer variations of the game's components. The base game alone can be secured with a $90 pledge, granting access to the retail version upon its release.

The estimated delivery date for the game is November 2027. Sanderson has a history of successful crowdfunding initiatives, with previous projects demonstrating reliable delivery.

This follows Sanderson's recent Hoid's Storybook Collection campaign, which raised over $11 million earlier this year. Prior to that, Brotherwise Games successfully funded the Cosmere RPG via Kickstarter in 2024, attracting $15 million in pledges. It remains to be seen if War for Roshar will surpass these previous crowdfunding successes.
