Author Brandon Sanderson has expressed enthusiasm for creating tabletop game adaptations of his Cytoverse book series, including Skyward. While he "would love to," Sanderson also emphasized a desire to avoid overwhelming fans with too many of his own projects, stating in a recent interview with IGN that the team aims to be deliberate and careful with such collaborations.
Sanderson is already actively involved in tabletop adaptations of his Cosmere novels, working with Brotherwise Games on standalone board games and a larger Cosmere TTRPG. The mention of potential Cytoverse adaptations comes as the series, particularly with the recent release of the first official book expansion, Blightfall, and the development of a Skyward TV series, shows signs of growing in popularity.
However, any Cytoverse tabletop adaptation is likely some way off. Sanderson noted that a Skyward TV series, if successful, could pave the way for related tabletop games, but cautioned that such adaptations, much like the Mistborn movie which is looking at a 2031 or later release, are still in the distant future.
Despite the lack of immediate plans for Cytoverse tabletop games, Sanderson has several other tabletop projects with Brotherwise Games on the horizon. The Cosmere RPG is set to receive its Mistborn expansion in November, and a large-scale strategy game, War for Roshar, is also in development. These upcoming releases suggest a continued focus on translating Sanderson's literary worlds into engaging tabletop experiences for his fans.
