Double Fine Productions is making its heavy metal-themed action-strategy game Brutal Legend available as a free download on PC for 666 minutes, a period of time chosen to honor the late actor Tim Curry. The offer began recently and will conclude on Thursday, August 27, at 3:06 AM PT / 6:06 AM ET.

Curry, who passed away at the age of 80, lent his voice to the character Doviculus in Brutal Legend, which was released in 2009 and is the work of Double Fine founder Tim Schafer. The studio, which recently regained control of its back catalog following a period after Microsoft's acquisition and subsequent studio closures, announced the giveaway on its itch.io page. Players can download and own the game on PC during the promotional window.

Brutal Legend was well-received upon its release. IGN awarded the game a 9 out of 10, praising its combination of humor, music, and gameplay as a "highly polished package."

Beyond his role in Brutal Legend, Tim Curry had a prolific career, with notable video game appearances including Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers, and Dragon Age: Origins. He is perhaps most widely recognized for his role in the cult film The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Double Fine has also indicated a return to its Amnesia Fortnight game jam initiative as the independent studio begins work on its next projects.
