A new trailer for the upcoming horror film Buddy has been released, offering a glimpse into a terrifying vision from Too Many Cooks creator Casper Kelly. The film reimagines the concept of a cheerful children's television mascot, akin to Barney the Dinosaur or the Teletubbies, as a central figure in a nightmare scenario.

The trailer for "It's Buddy!" sets a disturbing tone, interspersing shots of the titular orange unicorn mascot with scenes of children who appear to be subjected to the show's dark agenda. The narrative, as described, centers on Buddy, a character who spreads happiness and life lessons within his colorful world. However, the facade crumbles when a child refuses to participate, revealing Buddy's displeasure and the cracks in the seemingly perfect reality.

Keegan-Michael Key voices the character of Buddy, whose role is presented as a murderous counterpart to the innocent figures of 90s children's programming. The film's cast also includes Topher Grace and Cristin Milioti. Casper Kelly, who directed and co-wrote the script with Jamie King, is known for his work on the surreal horror short Too Many Cooks. Buddy appears to leverage a similar thematic approach, exploring the unsettling potential lurking beneath the surface of familiar children's entertainment.

Buddy premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and garnered positive reception from critics and audiences alike. Roadside Attractions and Saban Films acquired the film following its festival debut. The movie is slated for theatrical release on August 28, 2026.

In addition to the trailer, an "It's Buddy!" YouTube channel has been established, featuring short clips from the fictional children's show, further immersing audiences in the film's unsettling premise.
