Build a Rocket Boy (BARB), the studio behind the 2025 action-thriller MindsEye, appears to be closing its doors. Multiple former employees have stated on LinkedIn that all remaining staff are being laid off, suggesting a complete studio shutdown.
MindsEye has faced significant challenges since its release, compounded by the studio's claims of a sabotage campaign that reportedly strained its relationship with publisher IO Interactive. This narrative persisted even as the game received a poorly received expansion. Reports of earlier layoffs, allegations of mismanagement, and concerns over employee surveillance software have also surfaced.
Lead weapon and prop artist Adam Ridsdale shared on LinkedIn, "Unfortunately, along with the rest of my colleagues at Build a Rocket Boy, I am facing redundancy and now looking for a new opportunity." Principal talent acquisition partner Dan Hawkins echoed this sentiment, stating he was "Open to Work" and would be assisting with wrapping up HR duties, implying the studio's imminent end. Senior VFX artist Jason Waller also confirmed his role was being made redundant, adding, "Along with everybody else left at Barb my role is being made redundant." Other employees, including former head of audio Stuart Ross, have similarly reported layoffs.
Build a Rocket Boy has not issued a public statement regarding the reported shutdown. PC Gamer has reached out to the studio for comment and will provide updates if a response is received.
