Bungie Confirms No Destiny 3 Tease at The Game Awards, Focuses on Destiny 2 Legacy Content

Bungie has clarified its immediate future plans, confirming that no announcements for a potential Destiny 3 will be made at The Game Awards. Instead, the studio's focus remains on bringing legacy content from Destiny's past back into Destiny 2. This includes reworked versions of fan-favorite campaigns such as Red War and Forsaken.

Head of Product Josh Deane explained that the studio is in the early stages of incubating its future projects and is actively working on bridging the gap to a new iteration of the franchise. "Knowing we are early in incubating our future and actively working on projects to bridge us to that new home, don't expect us to make a Destiny announcement at the TGAs this year, or to randomly drop a logo that sets the world on fire right away," Deane stated.

Bungie secured an initial greenlight to begin scoping the work on this legacy content revival in June. A yet-to-be-revealed studio will be assisting with the porting process. To keep the community informed, Bungie has introduced a progress bar to signal major milestones. Currently, the team is in a pre-production, proof-of-work stage, aiming to ensure the porting process is effective and meets quality standards. This phase is expected to last until January or February, after which full production is anticipated to take approximately 12 months to complete the transfer of substantial content.

Looking ahead, players can anticipate "anchor" events within Destiny 2, similar to the existing Moments of Triumph celebration. Bungie also teased "Destiny Legacy," described as an "experience" designed to serve players where they are today. While details remain vague, this could indicate the integration of Destiny 1 content into Destiny 2. Further information on these initiatives and a new progress bar are slated for reveal in February.

In addition to the Destiny 2 efforts, Bungie is also continuing development on its extraction shooter, Marathon. The studio anticipates a critical period around March 2027 for Marathon, as it builds out connected PvE, PvP, and PvEvP experiences, alongside options for solo and group play.
