Destiny 2 developer Bungie has provided players with a final farewell gift: a redeemable code for the Gloriabundus Emblem. The emblem, featuring a stylized Destiny logo against a cityscape, can be claimed on Bungie.net and added to players' in-game Flair Collection.
This gesture coincides with the release of patch 9.7.0.3, which appears to be one of the last updates for the game. The patch primarily addresses bugs, with its main functional change being an increase in Vanguard and Crucible Ops reputation gains. It also re-enables a feature for the Consecrated Mind boss in the Pantheon, reversing a previous fix that had made the encounter unintentionally more difficult.
While Bungie has stated that major patches are unlikely, community lead Dylan "dmg04" Gafner clarified on X that critical game-crashing issues may still receive attention, and minor fixes could potentially be included if opportunities arise. This suggests that the game will remain accessible for maintenance and critical hotfixes, though new content or significant updates are not expected.
Bungie announced in May that Destiny 2's final major update would arrive in June. That update was substantial, attracting thousands of players back to the game and marking the largest surge in player numbers in years. Despite this resurgence, Sony did not proceed with investments in a sequel or continued support for Destiny 2. Following these decisions, significant layoffs affected the Destiny 2 team.
The final update has been well-received by the player base, leaving behind a wealth of content that is expected to remain enjoyable for years to come, albeit in a static state. The game effectively enters a permanent content sunset, with players now able to claim a final cosmetic memento of its active development cycle.
