Bungie has indicated that it is "absolutely not done with Destiny," a statement that comes just months after the studio concluded ongoing support for Destiny 2. In a recent video, Bungie studio head Poria Torkan and Josh Deane, head of product and general manager of Marathon, addressed the community, acknowledging past struggles and stating their intention to earn back player trust.
Torkan emphasized that the Destiny franchise is the foundation of Bungie and that there are "more stories to tell." She stressed the importance of developing these new narratives correctly and giving development teams adequate time to do justice to the universe. Deane elaborated on this vision, stating the goal is to "return Destiny to its original promise," which he defined as encompassing "awe-inspiring mystery, the sense of discovery, and the promise of a community of Guardians rallying together, raging against impossible odds."
This announcement follows a difficult period for players invested in Destiny and Destiny 2, particularly after the conclusion of substantial support with the Monument of Triumph update in June. To help rebuild player trust and restore the sense of community, Deane stated that Bungie is committed to unvaulting Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids that were previously removed. These elements, he noted, were essential parts of the shared player journey.
While this communication does not confirm the development of Destiny 3, Deane did confirm that the plan is to deliver "new Destiny stories and games" that players deserve. The studio aims to recapture the essence of what made the series compelling to its original player base.
