Players jumping into Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 may encounter an "account banned" message, but Activision has stated this does not necessarily mean their account has been actioned against.

This occurs as a result of recent backend updates aimed at improving match integrity and preventing exploits like unauthorized Prestige level gains. According to a post on the official Call of Duty Updates account on X, the "account ban notice" is a "byproduct of legacy systems used by older titles."

If a player receives this message and is able to reconnect to a match or session, it indicates that no enforcement has been taken against their account. Activision's enforcement actions are reserved for accounts identified with evidence of "intentionally obtaining unauthorized Prestige levels or other violations of our terms of service, including account manipulation."

While the "updated account data" message might cause temporary alarm, legitimate players can usually verify their status by attempting to rejoin a game. The game's recent updates have also addressed other technical issues, including improvements to mid-match lobby backfilling and a reduction in input delay for displays running at 120Hz or higher. Additionally, Zombies matches will now prioritize PS5 hosts, and a fix has been implemented for smoke grenade visual effects. A new option in Multiplayer settings also allows players to toggle the visibility of custom emblems.
