Modders have breathed new life into the 2009 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 by introducing features like skateboarding and integrating elements from Minecraft. Videos showcasing these modifications are gaining significant traction online.
One popular mod incorporates mechanics inspired by Skate 2, allowing players to perform tricks such as kickflips and grinds on skateboards across familiar Modern Warfare 2 maps like Rust, Terminal, and Karachi. These skateboarding stunts are displayed in footage shared by users like "Chasm."
In addition to the skateboarding mod, another creation places Call of Duty players within a Minecraft-inspired world. This mod, highlighted by user "Kiyy," transforms the game into a Free-for-All match where players utilize Modern Warfare 2 weaponry against Minecraft's blocky wildlife, including pigs and sheep.
It remains unclear if Activision will take action against these mods due to potential copyright infringements. However, both the Minecraft and Skate 2 mods are currently accessible via GitHub. Reports also suggest that a theater mode mod is in development, which would enable players to review and edit their gameplay clips.
While the next installment, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, is slated for release on October 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC, featuring a full campaign, multiplayer, and the DMZ extraction mode, these community-driven modifications offer a unique diversion for Modern Warfare 2 players in the interim.
