Activision has released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta, offering a glimpse into the game's ambitious scope, including its single-player campaign and a novel multiplayer map. The first beta weekend is scheduled to run from April 21 to April 25 and will be accessible to players who have preordered the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
During this initial beta period, players will have the opportunity to experience the campaign mission "Entrenched" and explore the "Kill Block" multiplayer map, among other content. Kill Block is described as the most ambitious map in the franchise's history, blending elements from several fan-favorite Call of Duty maps into a dynamic environment. Set at the fictional West Bridge Advanced Military Training Facility, the map features modular battlegrounds that reconfigure before each match, promising hundreds of potential layout combinations.
Modern Warfare 4 is slated for release on October 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2. The game marks a significant return to Nintendo platforms for the Call of Duty series, being the first entry since 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts. It also represents a departure from previous installments by skipping the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, similar to Ghosts.
The beta's availability will expand to all players from August 28 to August 31, removing the preorder requirement. This second beta phase will include the same campaign mission, "Entrenched," alongside additional multiplayer maps, access to the large-scale Ground War mode, and a preview of the "Resurgence Zodiac" map for Warzone.
Notably, Modern Warfare 4 will not be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 during the initial April beta weekend. Preorders for the Switch 2 version are not set to begin until August 26, a decision Activision has not yet elaborated on. Furthermore, unlike recent titles such as Black Ops 7 and Black Ops 6, Modern Warfare 4 will not launch directly into Xbox Game Pass, reflecting Microsoft's evolving multiplatform release strategy.
The game's launch on October 23 positions it approximately one month before the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is scheduled for November 19.
