Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch with day-one downloadable content centered on a real-life military hero, with proceeds directed to charity. The Call of Duty Endowment Valor Pack, set to release on October 23 alongside the game, introduces Medal of Honor recipient Kyle Carpenter as a playable character.
Carpenter's story, as detailed in the Valor Pack, recounts his actions in Marjah, Afghanistan, on November 21, 2010. While serving with his fellow Marines, he shielded his comrades from a grenade blast, sustaining severe injuries that included losing an eye and teeth, and remaining unconscious for five weeks. He was later awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama in 2014. "No matter how wrecked your world gets, the world keeps spinning," Carpenter stated in a related video.
The Call of Duty Endowment is Activision's charitable organization dedicated to assisting military veterans in finding employment after their service. All proceeds generated from the sale of the Valor Pack will directly benefit this endowment. This initiative follows a tradition of similar DLC packs for Call of Duty titles that have supported the endowment. For instance, a prior DLC pack for Black Ops 7 featured real-life soldier Chris Cassidy, who was involved in the hunt for Osama bin Laden and later became a NASA astronaut.
Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for release on October 23. A beta for the game is currently accessible to those who have preordered, with an open beta planned for August 28 to September 1.
