Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Will Let Players Hide Silly Skins in Warzone

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, launching this October, will introduce a highly requested feature to Warzone: an "Operator Skin toggle" that allows players to hide cosmetic items from past Call of Duty titles. Announced by Activision on September 24, this new setting will be available starting with Warzone's season one update.

When activated, the toggle will replace any third-party or outlandish operator skins used by other players with default Modern Warfare 4-appropriate cosmetics. This change will affect enemies, friends, and squadmates alike, appearing both in-game and on the lobby screen. Notably, the toggle will not alter how players see their own skins; if a player uses a cosmetic from a previous game, they will still see themselves with that skin, even if others have the toggle enabled.

The feature will be turned off by default. Activision stated that the goal is to cater to both player preferences: those who enjoy the variety of cosmetics from across different Call of Duty games, and those who prefer Warzone to feel more aligned with the latest release. This move comes after years of fan pushback against what many considered to be silly and distracting crossover skins, a sentiment echoed across multiple franchises in the genre.

While Activision has stated that "those kinds of skins aren’t in the cards for MW4," the implementation of the toggle raises questions about how it would function should the new title introduce its own unconventional cosmetics. This feature represents the first time a Call of Duty title has included such a toggle, an option long requested by the player base, particularly in light of perceived missteps in recent franchise entries.
