This limited-time event operates on an XP-based system, similar to previous crossovers like RoboCop and Nicolas Cage. Players can earn rewards by accumulating experience points across various game modes, including multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone. For those looking to maximize XP gain in multiplayer, objective-based modes such as Kill Confirmed, Hardpoint, and Domination are recommended. In Warzone, Casual Resurgence is suggested, while Zombies players can benefit from solo runs with the Rampage Inducer active, particularly on maps like Vandorn Farm.
A double XP weekend is scheduled to coincide with the event's start, providing an additional opportunity to speed up progression. Players can also utilize any accumulated double XP tokens.
The event offers both free and paid reward tracks. The free pass includes items such as the "Researcher" Operator Skin for Wei Lin, the "Soul Harvest" Spray, a 1-hour Double Weapon XP Token, the "Daisy" Sticker, the "Demon Slaughter" Loading Screen, the "Praetor Helm" Emblem, the "Doom 1993" Large Decal, the "Scientist" Operator Skin for Falkner, the "Mini Slayer" Weapon Charm, and the Roc 20mm Special Weapon.
To access the premium rewards, players can purchase the "premium" pass for 1,100 CoD Points, approximately $10. This paid track unlocks the iconic "Doom Slayer" operator, a "Slayer’s Arrival" Animated Calling Card, the "Rend" AN-94 Assault Rifle Blueprint, the "Shieldsaw Revs" Emote, the "Tear" M10 Breacher Shotgun Blueprint, the "Evisceration" Finishing Move, the "BFG" Siren Special Weapon Blueprint, the "Crucible" Katana Melee Weapon Blueprint, the "Doom Count" Gun Screen, and the "Doom Guy" Operator Skin for Doom Slayer.
In addition to the event rewards, a Doom-themed bundle called the Tracer Pack: Doom Demonic Essence will be available in the in-game store. This bundle is expected to focus on villains from the franchise and include weapon blueprints and cosmetic items, with IP bundles typically priced around $20.
The Haunting event complements other Season 6 content for Black Ops 7, which includes Halloween-themed game modes and a nighttime variant of Warzone’s Haven’s Hollow. This marks the final season for Black Ops 7 content, as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch on October 23, with campaign early access beginning October 16.
