Call of Duty: Warzone will soon be unplayable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Activision announced that support for the free-to-play battle royale on these last-generation platforms will cease shortly after the launch of season one for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
The next mainline Call of Duty title is scheduled to release on October 23, and Warzone's support on PS4 and Xbox One will conclude around that time. The game will remain accessible on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
This move away from last-gen consoles for Warzone mirrors the decision for Modern Warfare 4, which is also skipping the PS4 and Xbox One. The latter will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
Beginning with Modern Warfare 4's season one, Warzone will incorporate content and progression from the new title, creating a connected experience between the two games. While new downloads of Warzone are no longer available on PS4 and Xbox One, existing players can continue to play until the new season launches. The in-game store for Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One will be removed in June. Players will still be able to progress through free Battle Pass tiers and unlock weapons during the remaining Black Ops 7 seasons, according to the Call of Duty team.
Call of Duty: Warzone initially launched in 2020. A previous iteration of the game, Warzone Caldera, was shut down in 2023 following the release of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, which later dropped the "2.0" branding to simply be known as Call of Duty: Warzone.
